Sikkim imposes ban on plastic water bottles

A ban on plastic water bottles has been imposed by the government of Sikkim. The Forest & Environment Department of Sikkim has issued a ban on the usage, manufacture, import & sale of plastic water bottles of capacity up to 2 liters.

The solid waste generated and health hazards due to plastic water bottles are detrimental to health of the life on earth and environment as a whole. Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers under Section 5 of the Environment (Protection) Act,the State Government hereby imposes ban on use, manufacture, import and sale of plastic water bottles of capacity 2 litres and below

Date of Release – 29.12.2021

 

Applicable – All users, manufacturers, importers & retailers of plastic water bottles based in Sikkim
