Hazardous waste handling amendments have been provided by MoEFCC in the hazardous & other waste (Management & Transboundary Movement) Second Amendment Rules, 2021. As per the revised amended legal provision:

(1) The definitions of ‘Authorization’ & ‘Other Waste’ have been updated.

(2) Utilization of hazardous waste as a resource will only be carried out after obtaining authorization from the concerned SPCB (State Pollution Control Board) with respect to the SOPs or guidelines provided by the CPCB (Central Pollution Control Board)

(3) In cases where SOPs are not available then approval has to be taken directly from the Central Pollution Control Board. Thereafter the SOPs will be prepared by the CPCB.

(4) Any importer who is also a trader of hazardous waste has to apply in Form 7 for one-time authorization & obtain one-time authorization in Form 7A. A copy of this has to be attached to Form 6.

(5) A new addition related to glass wastes in non-dispersible form like cullet, other waste & scrap of glass except for glass from cathode ray tubes & other activated glass has been inserted in Schedule 8.
