MoEFCC provides relaxation for up to 20% expansion for mines like Iron, Manganese, Bauxite & Limestone. After requests from the Ministry of Mines & other interested parties for simplification of Environmental Clearance (EC) for mining of Iron, Manganese, Bauxite & Limestone, the joint appraisal committee decided that the mines having a 5-star rating, which had been granted an EC based on a public hearing can expand their capacity up to 20%. The OM (Office Memorandum) also stated that:

(1) Public consultation shall be conducted by obtaining written responses from local people & stakeholders.

(2) Expansion in the capacity should not involve any increase in mining lease.

(3) The project proponent has to prepare a detailed EMP (Environment Management Plan).

(4) All environmental parameters as stipulated by the government should meet the standards & maintained as per norms.

Date of Release – 20.10.2021

Applicable – Mine owners of Iron, Manganese, Bauxite & Limestone having prior EC.
