Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has been introduced new Guidelines for MSDS in newly released notification, in which they revised some Indian Standard (IS) and introduced some new Indian Standard. There are total 21 Indian Standard has been revised and 14 New Indian Standard has been introduced.

A new Indian Standard has been introduced for Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) – Guidelines which is named as IS 17889 : 2022. This IS 17889 : 2022 has been made into force from 31 August 2022.

A Material Safety Data Sheet is a technical document which provides detailed and comprehensive information on a controlled product. The MSDS lists the hazardous ingredients of a product, its physical and chemical characteristics (e.g. flammability, explosive properties), its effect on human health, the chemicals with which it can adversely react, handling precautions, the types of measures that can be used to control exposure, emergency and first aid procedures, and methods to contain a spill. 16 sections of MSDS are listed below.
