Introduction
Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) introduced the Plastic Waste Amendment Rules 2023, amending the existing Plastic Waste Management Rules of 2016.

The MoEF&CC has made deliberate efforts to fine-tune regulations regarding plastic waste management through these amendments. Rule 4, which previously referred to “multi-layered packaging” in sub-rule (1), has been revised to now mention “plastic packaging.”
Under Rule 5’s section on “Plastic waste management,” a change has been made in sub-rule (1) from “urban local bodies” to “local bodies.”
This new notification officially takes effect from October 30, 2023.
