Introduction

Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) unveiled a significant initiative concerning E-Waste Regulation Compliance pertaining to generate EPR certificate. This initiative directly relates to Producers and Recyclers, operating within the framework of the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022.

Role of Producers and Recyclers under E-Waste (Management) Rules

Within these regulations, Recyclers are mandated to engage in E-Waste Regulation Compliance to generate EPR Certificate (Extended Producer Responsibility) through the EPR Portal. CPCB has introduced an interim system to facilitate Recyclers in producing EPR End-Product Credits (Certificates) and transferring them to Producers. These credits play a pivotal role in assisting Producers in fulfilling their EPR obligations.

Transparency and Accountability in E-Waste Compliance

Transparency and accountability are key in achieving E-Waste Regulation Compliance. To meet these standards, Recyclers must maintain meticulous records, encompassing details of raw material procurement, sales of end products, and transactions related to EPR Certificates. These records are essential for generating EPR certificate and transferring EPR for End-Product Credits, a crucial component of E-Waste Regulation Compliance, all facilitated through the EPR Portal.

Participation in the Interim E-Waste System

While CPCB plays a facilitating role in this interim arrangement, it’s crucial to understand that the onus of upholding E-Waste Regulation Compliance, and the consequences of any malpractices or violations, squarely rests with the Producers and Recyclers. To participate in this interim system, E-Waste recyclers must register separately on the interim arrangement portal, easily accessible from the home page of the E-Waste Management Portal.

Conclusion

In summary, the CPCB’s notification serves as a milestone in promoting E-Waste Regulation Compliance. This initiative underscores transparency, accountability, and responsibility, emphasizing the importance of adherence to the regulations by both Producers and Recyclers.
