Under the Hazardous and Other Wastes (Management and Transboundary Movement) Rules of 2016, GPCB has authorized a list of actual users of hazardous wastes. The latest update to this list occurred in June 2023.
In compliance with the Environment Protection Rules, entities must dispose of hazardous wastes with the consent of the State Pollution Control Board. Furthermore, it is highly recommended that the disposal method involves recycling. However, it is equally important to ensure that the recycling agency possesses the necessary registration and approval from the regulatory authority. To maintain compliance, the list of approved waste recyclers undergoes frequent updates and publications.
When disposing of hazardous waste, it is of utmost importance to verify the documents of the recycling agency. It’s important to note that not all registered recycling agencies have approval to collect, store, or process all types of waste. For example, e-waste recycling agencies are not allowed to handle used oil disposal.
