Guidelines for Registration of Used Oil Importers on EPR Portal
Introduction
The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), under the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (MoEFCC), has introduced a mandatory Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) process for used oil importer registration. This initiative, outlined in the Hazardous and Other Wastes (Management and Transboundary Movement) Second Amendment Rules, 2023, ensures the traceability, accountability, and proper recycling of used oil in India. Importers must now register on the EPR Portal to fulfill compliance requirements.
Key Guidelines for Used Oil Importer Registration
1. Who Needs to Register?
The EPR registration requirement applies to:
- Producers of base oil or lubrication oil
- Importers of used oil

Conclusion
The EPR registration for used oil importers is a major step toward sustainable waste management in India.
