Central Pollution Control Board had adopted first ambient air quality standards on November 11, 1982 as per the Section 16(2) of the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981. These standards have been revised by CPCB in 1994, and later in 2009. Table 1 and 2 show the NAAQS as adopted by CPCB.
