Introduction:
To bolster urban safety, the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation has issued a directive emphasizing mandatory fire safety measures for all buildings within its jurisdiction. Effective from June 1, 2024, this directive aligns with the notification by the state government’s urban development and urban housing department (GH/V/68 of 2021/AGN-102021-100-L1), mandating compliance with fire safety norms as per the GPMC Act 1949 and the C.G.D.C.R.-2017 regulations.
Building owners, managers, and occupants are required to obtain occupancy certificates that include fire safety clearances. For those who have not yet secured these clearances, immediate action is necessary. This involves registering on the official fire safety portal (https://gujfiresafetycop.in) and applying for a fire safety certificate. The process includes selecting a government-approved private fire safety officer to inspect the installed fire safety equipment and certify the building’s compliance.
Failure to adhere to these regulations will result in severe consequences. The municipal authorities will disconnect essential services such as electricity, water, and sewage connections to non-compliant buildings. They will also pursue legal actions, highlighting the gravity of this mandate.
Conclusion:
This directive underscores Gandhinagar’s commitment to ensuring public safety by rigorously enforcing fire safety standards. Furthermore, it serves as a reminder for all stakeholders to prioritize safety measures. By doing so, they can prevent potential fire hazards and safeguard lives and property. Compliance with these regulations not only meets legal requirements but also fosters a culture of safety and preparedness in the rapidly urbanizing city of Gandhinagar.
