E-Waste EPR Returns Deadline Extended to June 30, 2025

Introduction

In a welcome move for compliance stakeholders, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has extended the E-Waste EPR Return deadline for filing quarterly and annual returns on EPR Portal. As per the latest update, registered entities under the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022 now have until June 30, 2025, to complete their filings for the Financial Year 2024–25.

This extension, from the earlier deadline of April 30, 2025, is aimed at facilitating accurate submissions and easing pressure on producers, recyclers, and refurbishes. The EPR certificate generation and transfer will continue uninterrupted during this grace period.

Who Needs to Take Action?

This extended deadline applies to all entities registered under the E-Waste Rules, including:

  • Producers of electrical and electronic equipment

  • Importers and Brand Owners

  • Authorized Recyclers and Refurbishers

  • Producer Responsibility Organizations (PROs)

Returns to Be Filed

Entities must file the following returns for FY 2024–25:

  • Quarterly Returns (Q1–Q4)

  • Annual Return

Key Dates

  • Previous Deadline: April 30, 2025

  • Extended Deadline: June 30, 2025

  • Extension Period Activity: Full access to file returns and generate/transfer EPR certificates

What Should Entities Do Now?

  1. Log in to the E-Waste EPR Portal

  2. Prepare accurate data on e-waste generation, collection, and channelization

  3. Coordinate with recyclers to ensure acknowledgment of quantities

  4. Submit returns by selecting the correct financial year and reporting period

  5. Generate confirmation receipts for internal recordkeeping

Why Timely Filing Matters

  • Prevents risk of penalties, suspension, or deregistration

  • Ensures smooth EPR certificate generation and transfer

  • Maintains clean compliance records for audits or inspections

  • Supports India’s commitment to responsible e-waste channelization and circular economy

Certificate Activity During Extension

Even during the extended filing window:

  • EPR Certificate generation for eligible recyclers continues

  • Certificate transfer across obligated entities remains active

  • The portal functions fully with no restrictions on compliance activities

Conclusion

With the EPR deadline now extended to June 30, 2025, registered e-waste entities have an added opportunity to ensure complete and error-free reporting. The CPCB’s move offers flexibility while maintaining accountability. Use this period wisely to finalize data, ensure certificate transfers, and submit your FY 2024–25 returns before the new deadline.
