CGWA - Regarding construction of piezometer in industrial areas

Central Ground Water Authority has released public notice regarding construction of Piezometer in industrial areas.

Ministry of Jal Shakti has issued guidelines to control and regulate ground water extraction in India’ vide notification dated 24th September, 2020; defined a penalty of rupees 2 lakh for non-installation of piezometer. Further amendment notification dated 29.03.2023 has notified that “In industrial areas (as designated or, notified by Central/State Government), Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) shall construct need-based piezometers as per local hydro geological conditions and further monitor water levels.”

As per this notice all ground water users are notified that for such projects located in industrial areas where installation of piezometer is a compliance condition.

The penalty towards non-construction of piezometer(s) on pending renewal applications in the NOCAP system is condoned where such projects are located in State/Center Industrial Cluster, and CGWB is constructing sufficient piezometer under PIB.
In all other future renewal cases where piezometer is a compliance condition and such projects are located in State/Center identified Industrial Cluster, and CGWB is constructing piezometers under PIB, the condition of piezometer is here by relaxed and no penalty shall be imposed.
