Extended Deadline for Filing Annual Returns under Battery Waste Management Rules
Introduction
The Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change has announced an extension for filing Annual Returns under the Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022. In response to a request from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the Ministry has granted battery producers an additional six months. Consequently, the new deadline for submitting returns for the fiscal year 2023-24 is now March 31, 2025..
Understanding the Extension for Battery Waste Management Annual Returns
The Central Government has extended the deadline for battery producers to submit their Annual Returns for FY 2023-24. Initially, these returns were due by June 30, 2024. However, the deadline was first extended to December 31, 2024, through an order issued in November 2024. Following another request from the CPCB, the deadline has now been further extended to March 31, 2025.
This extension applies to all battery producers required to submit their returns under sub-rule (11) of rule 4 of the Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022. The additional time gives producers the opportunity to complete necessary documentation and reporting, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards for battery waste management.
The extension not only offers producers and all involved parties more time to meet their obligations, but it also reduces pressure while ensuring the environmental integrity of the system remains intact.
Conclusion
The extended deadline for filing Annual Returns under the Battery Waste Management Rules gives battery producers the flexibility to meet regulatory requirements. It further reinforces the government’s commitment to a sustainable and responsible approach to waste management, ensuring producers are well-equipped to manage battery waste effectively.
